Acid/Base Help Files
Here are some helpful PDF files about ACID/BASE Theory. Everything is catagorized as Type 1 or 2 and the type of species put into solution.
Don't forget the BASICS, know your Strong Acids and Bases
Exam 2 Stuff - Chapter 10 (Atkins/Jones)
Here's a nice help sheet on the pH and pOH Scales
General Acid/Base Theory - compare the equations used for all acid/base equilibria. (Exam 3 and 4)
Type 1 problems - only ONE species goes into the solution
Weak Acid - only a weak acid (HA) put into solution.
Weak Bases - only a weakbase (B) put into solution.
Salt of a Weak Base - only a salt of a weak base (BHX) put into solution.
Salt of a Weak Acid - only a salt of a weak acid (NaA) put into solution.
Exam 3 Stuff - Chapter 11 (Atkins/Jones)
Type 2 problems - TWO species go into the solution
Weak Acid and its Salt - both a weak acid (HA) and the salt of that weak acid (NaA) put into solution.
Weak Base and its Salt- both a weak base (B) and the salt of that weak base (BHX) put into solution.
Here are two help sheets on Titration Curves
- Titration of a weak acid with a strong base
- Titration of a weak base with a strong acid
