Starting with exam 2, ll of our regular exams for this summer semester will be given online through Canvas during starting at 8:00 AM and ending promptly at 10:00 AM. The following information is for ALL of our exams. Any differences in protocol will be noted on the specific exam review page.
The cover page with the periodic table will be very similar to the one available on our website for the class (which is from the ChemBook site). Click the Periodic Table icon and then click for the pdf version or just click here.
Open notes means YOUR notes. Your hand-written notes. Your very own personal, hand-written, by you and only you notes. It does NOT mean any sort of electronic note help. No google, no internet. If you do that, it is blatantly cheating. Let me be clear again. You are cheating and guilty of academic dishonesty IF you use any source other than your brain, and your hand-written notes on exams.
The only printed material you can use is the periodic table pdf that we provide plus any provided tables of data or physical constants. You have access to the periodic table handout for every exam. So you do have plenty of time to print it out for such purposes.
and... to be a little redundant, we include the periodic table pdf with all the exams.
Each exam will cover the topics that were presented in the book, in class, and on the homework. Learning outcomes for each chapter are provided for every chapter on the gchem site. A comprehensive understanding of the topics along with the calculations and concepts for each chapter will be necessary in order to make high scores on the exams. Although there is a lot of common knowledge in the chapters, most students will need to study intensely for each exam. Most students cannot do well on the exams if they never study or do the homework.
Each exam will have approximately 20-25 multiple choice questions. This means that each question is typically worth either 4 or 5 points. The point values (if not all equal) are included with all questions so you'll see the points.
Each exam has its own overview page with learning outcomes and other info about the topics on the exam. All four exams have their own icon/link on the home page.
