Question: Where do all the old announcements and links go after they disappear from the front page? Here in the archive - in reverse chronological order.

It's a DONE DEAL!!! Good News for Some of you...

UT Administration APPROVES modified pass/fail (and Q-drop) for Fall and Spring Semesters

From the Provost's Office: Extended Deadline for Q-drops and Pass/Fail Flexibility

So to be clear, you can change your letter grade in this course to a "pass" and still count it towards your total for graduation. You can do this on upto 3 classes and the deadline is AFTER spring classes end. Wow - not bad. Always consult with your academic councilor before you do any of this though. They will help you do what is best for you.

NEW Q-DROP OPTION: You can now Q-DROP the course until WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 9TH! The drop won't count in your "total" - it will count as a non-academic Q-drop. This is by far the best option for those of you who are looking for ways to avoid an F in the course.

Here is the LINK to the eCIS survey that we'd really appreciate you filling out.

There are now 2 EXTRA CREDIT "assignments" in Canvas. They are...

  • eCIS Proof which is there for you to upload your screenshot of your eCIS homepage showing both Jimmy and me in the "Completed surveys" table.
  • Memes and More is there for you to upload a chemistry meme or other creative work.

NOTE: You can find those assignments in Module 5 or in the Extra Credit group of the Assignments menu (newly added by-the-way)

One more thing... I get a lot of this question: "Can I upload more than one meme?" The answer is YES - there is no limit. The max "score" though is still 5 points (that's 100%) which just 1 meme will get you. I'll eventually post a link to all the memes for those interested - I put them into Google Photos (free).

There is plenty of time to do these EXTRA CREDIT assignments (deadline is 12/7/2020). The two assignments will be averaged and you'll get 2% of that added to your overall grade in the course. Realize this effectively means that each assignment is a +1 point towards your overall score for the course. Certainly worth your while to do it.

Read this about

The University has stringent and mandatory guidelines pertaining to class zoom meetings. This then applied to ALL of our classes and office hours. To be clear, your Zoom account MUST be University of Texas affiliated and certified.

First thing to do if you haven't already.

  • Claim your free UT sanctioned Zoom account by going to utexas.zoom.us and register. This is done by clicking on the "Sign In" button (configure your account). You HAVE to do this, your current "free" Zoom account is not going to work properly. Just do it. You need to sign in with your UT EID and then register.
  • Now you can download and register the Zoom app on all your devices (including computers). The Zoom app is available in the Apple App Store and in the Google Play store for Android. The desktop app can be downloaded at utexas.zoom.us by following the Download Client link at bottom of the opening screen, and then downloading Zoom Client for Meetings. It is possible that you already have the Zoom app... you'll need to log out of your non-UT account and login with your new UT account.

Congratulations!

You found my class website

Yes, Dr. McCord here... and you are there - out there in cyberspace trying to get ready for this weird socially distant semester. Not a whole lot for you to do yet other than read the syllabus and get familiar with this website and the linked UT canvas site as well. If you feel bold and courageous, go ahead and get yourself ready to go with iClicker Reef (read the syllabus). Jimmy (our TA) and I will go live on Thursday. The Zoom info/link will be in canvas under the "Zoom" menu (duh).

Keep an eye on this website. Any new news or announcements tend to show up here. If we have to, we'll post some announcements on canvas as well.

Now take a deep breath and chill out. Peace. - paul
