Bedbugs?

Please read through the following information pertaining to the reports of bedbugs in UTC classrooms.

Bedbug Info Regarding UTC Classrooms

  1. We received no clear photos, no approximate location in the rooms, and no description of the insect. No actual specimen was ever submitted to us for analysis.
  2. Starting at 4:00am Thursday (11/21) morning we have inspected all suspect classrooms and other spaces in UTC especially the large lecture halls on the second floor, 2.112A and 2.102A.
  3. Our inspection included pulling out/unfolding every chair in both large second floor rooms.
  4. We have found zero insects or evidence of any insects.
  5. All UTC classroom spaces have been treated over the last month, stemming from the original report on 10/18/19 which included a photo. The product has been shown to control bedbugs for up to 12 months, so any insect dropped off in a UTC classroom should cease to exist.
  6. Follow-up inspections have not physically found ANY bedbugs (live or dead) in UTC since 10/18/19.

Main Issues

  1. occupants are unknowingly transporting the insects into the space then seeing the insect on chair/floor/person.
  2. there is a high probability that the the person(s) reporting has an issue at their residence or space they frequent
  3. there is no infestation and the rooms are not quality habitat for bedbugs

Key Take-Aways on this Issue

  1. We will not be treating UTC unless we confirm the presence of the insect. Nor will we treat based on hearsay or social media chatter.
  2. The rooms will remain open as usual for the foreseeable future

One last thing... This device is often left in various classrooms across campus. It is for monitoring air quality, it is NOT associated with bedbugs in any way.
