Question: Where do all the old announcements and links go after they disappear from the front page?
Here, on the stash page.
All Grades are IN Now
See you next semester!
Yes, I got a LOT of emails about grades. Various pleas and the like. Like I said in class, I read all of them and did not respond because really what would I say? All grades were assigned blindly to the students names - just a bunch of numbers which is what we go by here. Many of you will be pleasantly surprised and got your wish while others didn't quite make the cut they wanted. All students were put through the same scrutiny and general fairness as all other students. So whether you sent an email or not really didn't come into play as far as grading.
Now that the grades are done, I might re-read a few emails and maybe even respond to a few. I did appreciate some of the humor and creativity in many of the emails. Thanks for a good and memorable semester - one I'm lucky to have finished in hindsight. I'll be back in the spring for a new semester and will see many of you again. So have a great break and come back in January ready to study chemistry with some new found enthusiasm. See you in 2019!
Hook 'em,

These are as stated, blank exams to practice on + the KEYS and some corrections to the keys. Nice to utilize these as you study up for the final exam.
Exam 1 | KEY | corrections
Exam 3 | KEY | corrections
We pieced together a 50 question exam much like the final exam based on fall 2017 exams. There are two versions below, each with their own keys. The first version is the most like what you will get in that all the questions are completely scrambled in their order. The other version is somewhat more ordered in the order that we covered the material. They have the same exact questions though.
Remember that you will get a periodic table handout with your final exam test copy. It will have the usual information on the front and a whole page of formulas on the back. This is shown on the gchem site. Or, have a look below for the quick links:
Periodic Table Handout (FRONT)
Periodic Table Handout (BACK - formulas)
(these are all the formulas we are giving you)
Here are the two pdfs of the RAQ for Thermodynamics which is what I was attempting in class on Thursday (11/29).
UT Honor Code
“As a student of The University of Texas at Austin, I shall abide by the core values of the University and uphold academic integrity.”
Here are 92 questions we've actually used on past exams for thermodynamics. Study up and then test yourself - these are straight out of Quest just like your exam will be.
First Law (72 Questions):
Exam 4 Practice Problems Part 1 | KEY
Here is a little More Help from Jimmy on the key where the explanation is a bit lacking on 9 of the problems.
Second Law (20 Questions):
Exam 4 Practice Problems Part 2 | KEY
Don't be loser! Try to work all the problems first. Do NOT look at the key and say, "yeah, I know all this already". Use this as a true learning opportunity to help find out what you don't know. A truly prepared student will get most everything correct.
Dr. Anderson has further culled the first set of 72 problems into sorted chunks according to concepts and calculations. Check out his "breakdown" - Tom Petty would be proud. Have a look at the pdf for the full Breakdown.

here is a pdf from Dr. Anderson's first thermodynamic workshop on 11/13:
Thermo workshop 1.pdf (11/13/2018)
... still waiting on other pdfs, view the lecture online though.
Thanks, Dr. Anderson!
Check out my VSEPR/VB Help Pages which is a mini-site with all things VSEPR and some VB thrown in as well. Designed for mobile and in dark mode ooohhh... cool.
If you are in the 11am class and have a last name beginning with Mo - Z, you have a new/different room to go to for exam 3. Please click the Exam 3 link in the icons listed above (3rd row, 3rd position, duh) and write down that room number! - Dr. McCord
Start gearing up for yet another exam.
This is an office hour and not a review - come with specific questions.
We're just over the halfway point for the semester. I have now posted your current (adjusted for 3 drops) Reef average to Canvas. Click on the assignment for more details - like why you might show a blank or zero instead of your actual score.
Looking for HW PDFs ?
I have created a whole new page to list all the HW pdfs for the semester. It's currently on the new bottom row of icons above with a briefcase icon .
A small correction needs to be made on the Exam 1 explanations. Here is the Question and Correction.
Click on the Exam 1 link above to get all the details.
Jimmy's Exam 1 Review pdf is on the Review page.
Here are the first three homeworks from canvas as pdfs for you to review without fear of canvas penalties.
Just like above, HW pdfs. But these were slighly hacked by me to be a continuous "long scroll", hence the appended "LS" version. This should not be printed (actually non of them should) due to extreme page length. Works great on displays though.
In case you missed it or want to share, here is a link to my guest editorial for the Daily Texan on Monday. Maybe it will make you smile?
Textbook Questions? Here is a whole page on that. Give it a look if you are concerned: Buying a Textbook for CH301 and CH302 - some things you should consider and know.
Yes, I do use iClicker Reef - you will need an iClicker Reef subscription for the term which amounts to $14.99 for a 6-month subscription.
AND, just to be perfectly clear...
And to spell it out for you... I do not at all use iClicker remotes in class nor will they work if you bring them. Use them for biology class. No, I do NOT use the course-pack that they sell over in the UT Coop. Feel free to return yours and get your money back.
Yes, this is my official website for CH301. Click around if you want. Come to class on Thursday and find out more. Time to get this party started.
